We are participating in the Friendly Book Nook's Summer Reading Extravaganza Day 4 of Summer Reading Activities:
The topic for today is Summer reading activities!
Since we just read "Our Day at the Seashore" we are going to visit one of our local beaches and collect some seashells and sand for our Summer Memories Box (read below for instructions on how to make your own for this summer!). I'll even have my handy digi with me to snap some memorable pictures! Gabriel has never been to the beach, let alone seen the ocean so this will be a first for him!
How to make a Summer Memories box:
You'll need either a sturdy cardboard box w/ a lid or if you can't find one of those you can always buy one of those photo boxes.
You'll want to be able to label the box with your child's name, age, and the date.
You can decorate the box with cut out prints from magazines of things to do with your summer, or even his or her own artwork. You can easily glue them ot the outside of the box and brush on a coat of white glue thinned with water or cover with contact paper to preserve the prints!
What to put in the box? Anything (pictures, artwork, mini-jars of sand (gerber baby food jars work well for this), seashells, stubs from events you attended,) that made your Summer memorable and if you end up accumulating a lot of stuff make several boxes, I'm sure they'd be a joy to open up the next Summer!

What a great idea! I'm big on scrapbooking and saving memories, so summer memory boxes sound right up my alley. :)
