This is my first time doing "Fitness Friday" for Wii Fit Mommies!
I've had the Wii Fit for over a month now.. and I just kept getting a bit behind in my things (daily life, the children, family, friends, personal issues etc...) Yesterday, I was like "NOW" is the time to get on this thing and first off to see what all the hype was and also to see if it could help me...
Now, I have no problem losing weight... actually that is the "PROBLEM". I need to gain.... and when I say gain I mean I need to gain at least "20+ lbs" and when I heard that the Wii Fit had strength training I was like finally something I could actually use. Check out all the cool features of the Wii Fit HERE. I'm seriously a joke if I walk into a public gym, hence the reason I'm not a member at any of our local gyms...Its not due to the fact that I'm over weight its the fact that I'm extremely under weight and either you way you look at it, women are critiqued and judged whether they are considered "Fat" or "skinny"... Can you believe that? I know if anyone is reading this post who may have some issues when it comes to being overweight would think that it would be a blessing to be "skinny" ,in all reality its a blessing to be "in shape", not over weight or under weight, we need to focus on being healthy for our own body types.
I started off with the first inital test, which is Balance. I know your thinking well as thin as you claim to be you must have been a pro at this, probably got a Gold Star?!?!?... NO ... Not even close... My balance was horrible!!! I'm 26 years old and I have seriously bad balance that comes with bad posture and age.... I thought okay... maybe its just because I haven't really tried to work out, or balance.. or whatnot.. I found out that I tend to lean most of what weight I have on my right leg, which is true, I've been doing this forever.. Ok What's the next step? I did a few of the exercises to peform the balance tests and then there was the oooh scary for most "BMI" calculator...
A normal BMI is 22 as many of us know. My BMI was 17.6, I'm "underweight" which is unhealthy and makes it to where my body is more prone to illness. There aren't any pros to being skinny, who cares what other people say or how the world views you, there are pros to being "healthy".
Now for the kicker before I go onto my "Wii Fit Age", I'll first tell you how much I weigh.. I know everyone has been on the edge of the seats waiting for this one, some of you who are reading are probably ready to strangle me while others may sympathize with me.
Today I weigh 90.6 lbs (last month it was 80lbs), I'm 5 foot even. I'm petite and always have been. I eat like a horse at times and the most I've ever weighed on my own (not being preggo) is 100.00 lbs but that was back when I was 17yrs old eating Chick-Fil-A 3 times a day and actually going to a gym for muscle training because I was tired of being told I was anorexic or bulemic. As a teen I seemed to have started puberty late (menstrual cycle didn't even start until 17), my growth was stunted, and I don't even think I got a breast cup size I was happy with until I was pregnant with my first son at 21!
What is the major culprit of it all? I have Crohn's Disease, I was diagnosed a few days before my 16th birthday, there was no sweet 16 for me, more like Sick Sixteen. This was the reason for the stunted growth, the rapid weight loss and the almost impossible journey to keep a healthy weight on. At 16 and sick with CD I weighed a disgusting 60 lbs... I was a lil' shorter than my height now but it was disgusting, I hated myself, my body, and if it wasn't for my strong faith that I would overcome this, I would have literally wasted away from lack of nutrition and proper weight gain. Now this is the beginning of another chapter in my life that I will continue on later but this is the main culprit for my battles with "GAINING" weight.
Now onto my Wii Fit Age.. which scared me a bit... since I thought overall I was kind of in shape regardless of having Crohn's. Are you ready??? I'm 26 this August and my Wii Fit Age was +13 yrs... if you consider me already 26.. That's 39!@!!!!! I was like nooooo...... I know my balance is bad due to the problems I've been having with extreme joint pain (athritis/joint pain) but to be considered 13 yrs older than I am... it was scary... I'm actually getting ready to go to a Chiropractor to see exactly what the issue is.. its been off and on but its been getting worse and I'm only 26 not 85.... I mean if I fall or something will I break my hip?
So the Wii Fit has opened my eyes a bit... I set up some goals to try to gain 5 lbs in 2 weeks.. and believe me people this is a BIG Challenge for me... So do you think I can do it?
My Goal:
5 lbs in 2 weeks and continuing with Strength Training (I'm a Newb so I'll have to explore it a bit more!)

WOW! What an amazing post! My husband wants to gain as well and I know for some people it can be harder to gain that to lose, because that's how it is with him. This was a very impressive post and I thank you for showing us the other things the Wii Fit can do for people! Eat lots of carbs and focus on bulking up, I can't wait to read your progress!
Hi.I found you from the fitness friday post. I'm glad you are trying the wiifit. I love it, I'm using it for weight loss & toning. I use the aerobics alot but the balance games are fun. The strength moves have helped to tone & sculpt me. I like the weigh in & you can tract your progress. I hope you keep using it & I look forward to reading your post next week.
The wii fit probably wont help you gain weight...but it definitly can help you tone.
I have a young daughter who we have always struggled with her gaining weight...it can be so difficult especially when dealing with an illness to put those pounds on. We had to go to tube feedings and high calorie foods to make sure she gets the calories she needs.
