Did you know that alchol is one of the easiest items your child can get there hands on? Hard to believe isn't it? Its legal... as long as your 21+... Anyone can buy it for them with a little bribery... could be an older friend, even us, most parent's I know do drink and have a cabinet with liquor inside. Easy access right there. I will not judge any adult who does drink but if you do, lock it up just as you should do for any prescription drugs.
On October 27th, MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) launched The Power of Parents: It's Your Influence (www.thepowerofparents.org). A very informative and helpful program for any parent, drinking can start at any age, just as you will see on the website they have resources for parents of Elementary, Middle School, High School, and even College.
Look at this new report by the National Center on Addiction & Substance Abuse (CASA) @ Columbia University:
Compared to teens who have frequent family dinners (five or more per week), those who have infrequent family dinners (fewer than three per week) are more than one and a half times likelier to use alcohol? This according to the Importance of Family Dinners V.
Talk to your kids "early" about alcohol abuse and the effects it can have not just on them but on others.
