Jizo & Chibi - Jewelry that Protects! - Review

I received the  Little Jizo necklace
(18k gold vermeil mirror image)
(retails at $65)

About the Collection:

There are two collections – the Jizo Jewelry Collection and the Chibi Jewely Collection. Check out the full collection here http://jizoandchibi.com/jewelry. The beautiful pieces range from $50 to $200 in gold vermeil and sterling silver.

Jizo, one of the most beloved and revered Bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism, is the protector and guide of women, children, and travelers. Jizo is particularly special to women often giving great strength to pregnant women.

Chibi, the Japanese word for small child – or little one – when worn as jewelry creates a sense of calm. Chibi is soothing, playful, and can be mischievous – as one’s own child or our own inner child.

Whether it is a way into ourselves for Jizo to hold our inner self safely or a means for reflection on a safe journey in life or the well-being of a child, Jizo and Chibi may help provide a beginning to a path of greater awareness.

My Thoughts on Jizo & Chibi:

I love my little Jizo necklace, such a delicate yet bold statement to wear a necklace that does raise quite a few questions, especially on what it is or what it means. 2,500 years ago, Jizo was one of Buddha's four principal bodhisattvas  which means enlightened teachers and is said to give strength to women who are pregnant,  since I found out I was pregnant and recently discovered this I've actually been wearing the necklace, I need all the strength I can get as of lately!

Valerie S. Johns, designer of the Jizo & Chibi line  creates a cute and bold symbolic representation of Jizo & Chibi, if your into Japanese culture especially Buddhism check out her collection of necklaces, earrings, pendant jewelry, books, art, statues, hand puppets and even a baseball cap.
