Update - 36 Weeks Preggo

(36 weeks 2/1/2011)

I know I haven't been updating my "4th" pregnancy as much as I'd like to on my blog here. But just to give you a general idea of what has been going on I will proceed to let you know how the oh so awaited and dreaded last of the 3rd Trimester is going!

Time has flown by, seriously... this preggo seems like it has just passed me on by. I can't believe in literally less than 3 weeks I will be holding my precious baby boy! I want to laugh, cry, and just outright scream over the feeling! I'm a bundle of emotions still, I do have a knack for keeping them under control at times and with certain people.

This pregnancy I've actually been sick more than usual, not like nauseated sick, or morning sickness sick, I'm talking virus/cold/we think its a bacterial infection sick... Sometimes I swear the Doctors never know what exactly ever happens when I start to feel under the weather. Usually it takes a good dose of rest, along with a warm bath, and a much dreaded dose of antibiotics that seem to work until I get "sick" again... But through the bout of sickness I've had, I've always recovered and to my knowledge my little angel has been kicking right on through with it and is healthy as can be according to the Doctors.

I do feel bigger this pregnancy even though I'm only at 115 lbs...I'm usually at least 130 lbs at the end of each of my pregnancy's. I lost some weight on a trip to the ER from literally throwing up in less than 5 hours everything I had in my system for the day. I dropped 15 lbs in a few hours... fun stuff.

I'm "all baby".. yeah I've added some weight to my thighs, my breasts, and my butt, but most of the weight is on my belly...how else do you think I "hide" the 10lb baby boys I have? I will say I've been blessed... no stretch marks other than my previous 6 inch scar (from a bowel resection back in 2000) stretching a bit from each pregnancy, but the scar has been faded quite a bit since 2000.

I went to see my new OB/GYN  on the 26th of January, he was quite friendly especially since every other Doctor I called that was nearby either wouldn't see me due to being "too far along" or didn't accept my insurance. I have military insurance , Tricare,  and was surprised on how many doctors in the area didn't accept the insurance! I figured military insurance would be accepted almost anywhere? Also what is up with being "too far along"???? I'm going to have a baby, I'm supposed to have a c-section, a planned one at that unless I go into labor before an assigned date but either way I have to have a c-section due to the previous pregnancies! Its instant money for any OB/GYN? Has anyone else run into this predicament? I know people move from state to state and yes sometimes late in pregnancy... I just couldn't believe some of the Doctor offices would deny me due to being in my 3rd trimester?

Anyways, the first appointment with my new OB/GYN went great, he was very informative, he gave me 3 options which will be further discussed this Friday the 4th. I will come to a decision on my c-section date and hopefully my previous OB has already sent over the rest of my records.. since I did fill out a medical release form!

To be Continued....

National Amniotic Fluid Awareness

Did you know that Jan. 27, 2011 marked National Amniotic Fluid Day?

– Most women know that amniotic fluid is the nourishing and protective liquid that surrounds a growing baby, but are unaware of the potential of amniotic fluid beyond pregnancy. Amniotic fluid contains mesenchymal stem cells, which are at the forefront of medical research, and, if collected and stored, these stem cells may help protect the child throughout their lifetime. Biocell Center, leader in amniotic fluid preservation, is proud to participate in Amniotic Fluid Awareness Day to educate expecting parents about banking amniotic fluid and staying on the cutting edge of trends in the rapidly advancing field of regenerative medicine.

“The technology to preserve amniotic fluid did not exist until relatively recently so, for decades, doctors and labs have discarded what has proven to be one of the richest, natural sources of mesenchymal stem cells,” said Kate Torchilin, CEO of Biocell Center. “Amniotic fluid banking is the latest advance in stem cell preservation. Research with these stem cells is leading to significant medical discoveries, and the only way to take advantage is to plan ahead and preserve now.”

The stem cells contained in amniotic fluid are multifunctional and can grow into many different organs and tissues.  Research shows that these stem cells could potentially be used to repair cartilage in the knee, heal wounds or grow heart valves.

“Decisions about prenatal testing and stem cell banking can be overwhelming, so it is important for women who are pregnant or trying to conceive to learn about all their options and be empowered to make the right decision for themselves and their family’s needs,” said Elizabeth Battaglino Cahill, RN, Executive Director of HealthyWomen, the leader in independent health information for women.  “We hope that stem cell banking becomes a routine consideration during pregnancy planning and that women become educated early on.”

It is easy and safe to collect amniotic fluid throughout the entire pregnancy, as early as the second trimester, because a little bit of it is already routinely collected during some prenatal tests.
A small amount – just one to a few teaspoonfuls – of fluid can be then set aside for preservation, without any change to the prenatal test itself.

Amniotic fluid stem cells are a perfect match for a child, meaning that organs and tissues that may be grown from these cells will always be accepted by his or her body. These stem cells may also match immediate family members, so preserving amniotic fluid may provide opportunities for siblings and parents to benefit from future medical advances.

There are 160 medical studies around the world evaluating cells similar to the ones found in amniotic fluid.  As just one example, such cells are already used for post-surgery bone healing in spinal surgeries, and researchers predict innovations to continue.

No one can predict the discoveries yet to be achieved by leading regenerative medicine researchers; however, mothers who bank amniotic fluid will be prepared for future medical advancements.  Amniotic Fluid Awareness Day marks the first step toward recognizing the potential of amniotic fluid beyond pregnancy.

About Amniotic Fluid Stem Cells
During pregnancy, the growing baby is surrounded by amniotic fluid, a substance that is similar to water. Amniotic fluid contains fetal cells that are normally shed during growth, and other chemicals and substances. Amniotic fluid can provide important information about baby’s health before birth.
Recent studies show that amniotic fluid also contains stem cells, known as mesenchymal stem cells.

Amniotic fluid is one of the richest, natural sources of mesenchymal stem cells. Mesenchymal stem cells can differentiate into variety of cell types, including bone, fat, kidney, brain, muscle and liver, and are actively studied by medical researchers for the regenerative medical applications.

About Biocell Center
Biocell Center, the leader in amniotic fluid preservation, was founded by internationally renowned doctors and scientists with decades of experience in prenatal testing and stem cells. Biocell Center is part of an international group of companies that offer amniotic fluid cell cryopreservation services worldwide.   For years, Biocell Center has been conveniently and safely preserving amniotic fluid for pregnant women in Europe.  The company opened its U.S. headquarters in Boston, Mass. in 2009, and is the first private amniotic fluid cell bank in the U.S.  Biocell Center is an active participant in medical collaborations and scientific discussions in the area of amniotic fluid stem cells and their potential use in regenerative medicine.
