Thursday this week was the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It also marked the start of the 16-day campaign from Fokus Kvinner, which this year aims to get the word «femisid» into Norwegian dictionaries . Femiside is defined as the murder of women because they are women.
Apriil Reklamebyrå has developed the campaign and now they are ready with a commercial for the case produced by The Film Agency Oslo .
The director is Anna Fredrikke Bjerke , who also has an interdisciplinary master’s degree in Film and Gender Studies. She is one of an extraordinary number of women who have contributed, both in front of and behind the camera.
– It is known to me the first time we have only women in all stages from direction and text to post production, sound, music and photography, and we are proud to focus on such an important topic. Because without words, it is difficult to talk about a problem, says Maren Gjerdrum Haugen , producer in The Film Agency Oslo.
She says that they are a production company that is run by women, and with a predominance of female employees. They therefore got the idea that they should carry out the production exclusively with female staff.
– In a partly male-dominated industry, it presented challenges, and especially in the lighting department it was dark, but we are at the mercy of the contribution of our male element there. The rest of the functions both in staff and in post-production were filled exclusively by women, says Gjerdrum Haugen.
– The nice thing about putting together such a project was the exclusively positive response from the we contacted and the willingness to contribute. It created a community for us in the production, she continues.
In addition to everyone who has worked behind the camera, The Film Agency has also brought the football player Khalida Popal who fled Afghanistan to Denmark in 2011 after receiving death threats, to appear in the film.
The music is donated by Juno Jensen and Konradsen .
The staff in the film has consisted of Anna Fredrikke Bjerke (director), Mari Kihle (creator in April), Hege Svendsberget (production manager), Maren Gjerdrum Haugen (producer), Alvilde Naterstad (photo), Tora Turøy (B-photo), Anette Alvik (camera assistant), Ida Bjerch Andresen (props), Siril Bredesen (Costume) and Tobias Olsen / Joakim Tutturen (light).
